After more than a decade of difficulties, the pandemic has drastically worsened the situation in the country, with poverty and unemployment rates reaching maximum levels. The latter is accounts for 20 % in some regions, and 40 % among young people*. The latest estimates put the number of families in poverty at over two million, which means about 5.6 million people who lack the necessities of life. The economic North-South divide further provokes discontent and conflict.

In addition, international political crises are leading to a steady stream of migration to Italy and Europe, hitting the country with immense challenges.

Uncertainty is also spreading in the church environment. Due to closures and restrictions in response to the pandemic, thousands of believers have moved away from the churches and are no longer participating in church life.

We are present in Italy through our subsidiary organization ACP Italia that works in cooperation with local congregations and ministries to care for people in precarious situations.
