Burundi

Four out of five people in the country work and live in the agricultural sector; in addition to drudgery, many try to support themselves. The country is green and fertile, thus offering ideal conditions. Because of its economic dependence, Burundi is at considerable risk of inflation. Especially the poorest class of the population is strongly affected by the current inflation, which has massively increased in 2022. Over 60 % live below the poverty line.

Poverty provides the perfect ground for active Islamization via health centers, schools and aid to the poor. A way out of Islam is hardly possible after a certain time and is then no longer socially accepted. People who find Jesus often experience discrimination and social exclusion. At this point, the core concerns of ACP meet the need in Burundi.

Most people live in the south of the country, in the greater Bamako area. The poorest try to survive by begging and collecting garbage. In many cases, they are victims of exploitation and abuse. Children, for whom there is not enough food, are sometimes abandoned when they are still infants.
